I'm getting the following error when trying to link a configuration item to a service request on our customer portal. The list of available configuration items opens, and the error is produced when selecting one of the listed CIs. The portal role has view rights to all configuration objects. I get the error regardless of the CI type that is being linked. Any thoughts on what could be causing this error?
Portal Error: Could Not Retrieve Config - Application Business Object
If there's a 'Reverse Relationship' to the CI, you'll need edit rights to the CI as well, as linking also modifies the CI in that it links the CI back to the original record in a second 'action'.
OOTB Incident Links Configuration Items has a reverse relationship; Try giving your customer edit rights to the CI objects, but not to any fields (uncheck the 'New field' edit right and it should take away for most of the fields).
Unfortunately, this didn't work. The relationship is Incident links Configuration items (with reverse relationship). I checked the portal security group's permissions for the Configuration Items object and all it's members to ensure the group has edit rights to each CI object as suggested. They already have edit rights to the incident object. I'm still getting the error.
Are you on a SaaS / Hosted environment, or an on-premise environment?
Would you have the ability to check the Windows Event Log (Application Log) at the time this is occurring to see if any additional errors are logged there?
Issue Resolved - It was caused by an expression that had lost its field association. The expression was fine in the default view, but not in the portal view. Once the field associations were re-established, the error stopped.
