I am new in Cherwell and I have a problem with reports that I cannot resolve by myself and need your help.
I need to produce reports regularly and save them to a custom folder on our local server. How can I configure the Cherwell to execute this action?
Hi Kat Hilario,
I don't have much experience with reports, but while waiting for answer from professionals you can try two things.
1. Create One-Step and choose Run a report action. This action have option of Write to File where you can choose folder on your local server.
2. You can create report as scheduled task. Admin Client > Scheduling > Edit Schedule > On Scheduled Item Action page choose Report and define Output File
Thank you for the answer. Unfortunately, it does not help me. If you notice, there is a warning below the configuration form stating: " This file must be creatable on the machine where the scheduler runs." We have our system hosted in Cherwell and do not have access the machines. Besides, the folder may change. I would like to make this operation dynamic.
Did you try to create report with One-Step, that was first point? In case that it works you can create couple of different one steps that will lead to different destinations. When you talking about dynamic operations - do you want to have kind of prompt and redirect report to different file when one step runs? By the way it is possible to choose One-Step as Action of Scheduled Item
OK, I understood that it is possible to use one-steps to run and save the reports, but isn't there the same limitation in terms of the machines and system location? I was thinking about some kind of a global variable that permits to specify this path on the disk for the saved files.
Good. So you have couple of issues to solve. First - How to save files in hosted environment from hosting server to your server? I guess it would be good idea to contact Cherwell and ask if it is possible and how to do it. The second question will be if that works with scheduler?
About dynamic saving path, not sure if that exist in Cherwell. One of the possibilities to solve the issue is to save reports to the same path, but send e-mail with attached report file every time as one step runs.
