Most IT Orgs Have Embraced AI—But There's a Catch

Dismiss any impression you have of artificial intelligence (AI) being the technology “of the future.” According to a recent study we conducted in partnership with global research firm IDG—among 260 IT decision makers at organizations over 1000 employees—the future is now: a whopping 71 percent of IT organizations have already implemented one or more AI projects.
And the effects of implementing an AI project are powerful. Around one-third of those surveyed say their AI projects are already generating a return on investment, with an overwhelming majority—90 percent—anticipating that the ROI will be positive in the next five years.
That said, implementing AI-based projects is not always a friction-free process. Our survey revealed that many respondents encounter barriers on implementation journey. That's not so surprising—AI may not be so “futuristic” anymore, but it is still new and groundbreaking.
For 80 percent of our survey respondents, there were three or more roadblocks to implementing AI, including:
- Integrating with the business' current processes and systems
- A rapidly changing landscape for AI, creating a challenging environment for making informed decisions
- The costs—and effort—required to train an AI system
While these and other barriers can make the initial implementation of AI projects challenging, for the majority of businesses, the growing pains are worth it, given the anticipated return on investment.
